It’s time when we say goodbye to the year 2023. Every year we try coming up with new resolutions, new goals and as the year progresses, we complete some of them and others get left behind due to other priorities. there are ups and downs in life and 2023 was no different. For me also, 2023 brought a lot of health issues as a downside but still I managed to pull off a lot of things as an upside. I learned a lot this year as well and continued my growth.
No matter what, do remember that there will always be happy times and sad times, you just need to stay stronger during the hard times and stay calm when things are going well. The only constant throughout is your growth and yes you grow more during the hard times as you learn survival.
What am I happy about in 2023?
I created a lot of content for Kubesimplify even with not so good health throughout the year → 24 videos and 7 live streams on Kubesimplify main channel, 26 videos on Kubesimplify Hindi channel.
I learned a lot of WebAssembly and generative AI stuff which I am happy about. I did the first ever WebAssembly India wave as well (Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Mumbai)
I spoke at a good number of conferences and organizesd a couple of them as well → KubeCon(both EU & NA), Civo Navigate(both EU & NA), Kubeday Bengaluru, KCD Mumbai, WASM IO and a few others.
I gave multiple Keynotes this year related to WebAssembly and cloud native Sustainability
I interacted with a lot of people, learned a lot of stuff that helped me develop professionally and personally.
Published a new book on CKA - Certified Kubernetes administrator exam, happy that its sold more than 115+ copies
Watching my little one grow and the amazing support I get from my wife <3
What is my focus for 2024?
Creating even more content for Kubesimplify - mostly courses(first course arrvice 8th Jan 2024)
More livestreams on Kubesimplify
More blogs on Kubesimplify
Building something - Yes want to be part of a building something that create an impact
More focus on health and fitness - nothing too fancy just getting my basics right and trying harder to be healthy
My thoughts on cloud native and WebAssembly in 2024?
I have posted a complete blog on it here. In a gist, WebAssembly will definitely see more adoption with WASI preview 2 and Component model in place. Also to point WASIX and other areas of development like AI inferencing that focuses on more adoption. More adoption for cloud providers to provide Kubernetes nodes that are pre configured to run WASM workloads.
In terms of sustainability, I feel it will grow even stronger and more companies and projects will be adoption sustainable software practices. First steps for anyone is identifying carbon emissions and then the next step is how we can minimise it. There already are tools and groups even in the cloud native ecosystem that you can use like Kube-green and Kepler used together can be a good combo. We will see more such combinations in 2024 and more innovation in this space.
Yes 2023 has been the year of AI and 2024 we will see even more adoption, Kubecon NA 2023 was also about how to make Kubernetes more suitable for AI/ML workloads and we will see more of this. 2024 the adoption even rises and we will see more tools popping in this space or existing companies working on creating AI based solution for observability, troubleshooting etc.

What's an Internal Developer Platform? - IDP’s enable developers to autonomously manage the full application lifecycle, offering a suite of tools and services for independent configuration, deployment, and maintenance of applications. This contrasts with previous models where developers relied heavily on IT and DevOps teams, leading to inefficiencies. IDPs act as middleware, providing a self-service experience that integrates with existing DevOps and engineering stacks, enhancing efficiency, productivity, and innovation in software development.
What comes after open source? Bruce Perens is working on it - Bruce Perens proposes a new model, Post-Open Source, aimed at redefining corporate-developer relationships and ensuring fair compensation for developers, while remaining free for individuals and non-profits. This initiative is driven by the need to adapt to changing times and to address issues like the commercial exploitation of open source software without adequate returns to the developer community.

Kubernetes 1.29: New (alpha) Feature, Load Balancer IP Mode for Services - This blog introduces a new alpha feature in Kubernetes 1.29. It provides a configurable approach to define how Service implementations, exemplified in this blog by kube-proxy, handle traffic from pods to the Service, within the cluster.
Extending GitOps: Effortless Continuous Integration and Deployment on Kubernetes - The article discusses the evolution of GitOps for Kubernetes, focusing on the Argo CD Image Updater as a tool for effortless continuous integration and deployment. It explains how the updater automates the application update process by checking for newer container image versions and triggering updates in Kubernetes resources, thereby extending the traditional GitOps process for improved efficiency and scalability in backend development.
